Generate the Power in Your Business

20140730-WI - Generate the PowerToday’s business world is volatile and it’s often difficult to determine what we should do next.  Just as the stock market seems to be moving upward something happens across the globe that causes it to dip and businesses around the world suffer.  You read the papers and journals and try to keep abreast so that you can respond to quickly to the changes.  Then something happens…your biggest client goes away, one of your senior leaders resigns or the deal you were expecting to close tanks…something happens that sends you and your business into a tail spin.

You now have two problems.  The business issue you are facing and your emotional reaction to what’s happening.  If you let your emotions hold you hostage the business issue becomes overwhelming.  You won’t be able to see the solutions as you focus only on the problem.  Creativity goes out the window.  You’re embarrassed to seek help.  As your spiral down emotionally even making a decision seems difficult.  Is there a way out of this situation short of a miracle?  How can you generate the power in yourself so you can generate the power in your business?

Hey I’ve been there.  About four years ago I had a division of Incedo that I had to close down because I was losing a ton of money.  I thought I had done everything right before starting this division.  I wrote a plan, I sought the advice of those I knew were smarter than me, I had the financials worked out; except it didn’t work.  Within 18 months I was hemorrhaging money that I couldn’t afford and had to close it down.  Then I went into the doldrums for six months with a serious crisis of confidence.  I was afraid to make a decision.  The emotional toll it took on me and the business was horrific.  What got me out of this stage and moved me forward?  Lots of love and support from others helped for sure.  Then one day I stopped and asked myself the tough questions, and answered them.

Several years ago we created a video titled The Voice.  It’s about four minutes long and addresses the issue I mentioned above.  You can watch it here www.thevoice.com.  You have to start by not only asking yourself the tough questions but be willing to answer them honestly.   Pretending or making excuses doesn’t move you forward.  In fact it keeps you stuck.  You have it within you to change course.  It all starts with taking the first step, then the second and before you know it you’ve gone a mile.  Don’t let your emotions hold you hostage.  Take action and go Generate the Power in Your Business.
