Well apparently, the two sexes are different, even in their management! According to the study, women and men have different challenges and good leadership skills, so it is important for companies to have a good balance of male and female leaders if they want to be really successful.

The study scored men as more strategic, they are good strategic planners, but women are better in handling projects.

Male leaders had high scores in long-term planning and providing vision to a team. They are very good at making a strong impression on others and expressing their opinions. While male leaders are not as socially adept as their female counterparts are, they make up for it by being visible to their team and providing the help they need to advance in their career. Their strength lies not in making friends, but on logic and their results-oriented attitude.

The ability of male leaders to think forward and plan for the long term, may also be the reason why they dominate senior-management positions.

Female leaders showed more aptitude in activities such as planning and managing, which includes prioritizing tasks and multitasking. Women leaders, according to the study, were more sensitive to deadlines and promises they make. They also scored well for empathizing with employees and showing accountability. In essence, a woman’s social skills show forth on her good leadership skills.

Yes, the study shows that the two sexes have distinct leadership styles, and thus their areas of improvement are also different. However, if we look at it in a different angle, this study is further proof that having a good mix of male and female leaders in an organization will result in better performance. The male’s leadership style complement’s a woman’s leadership style, and vice versa.

Aside from the difference in leadership styles, the study also discusses how both sexes scored themselves and their counterparts. According to the results, female leaders are generous in scoring other leaders of the same sex, but they don’t show the same generosity to male leaders. They rated other female leaders highly in terms of leading a team, communicating, and managing team performance.

Male leaders, on the other hand, rated other men highly in terms of ability to provide new solutions and analyzing complex situations. This article goes to show that there is no such thing as a better sex. It just doesn’t apply to business. Companies need female and male leaders with good leadership skills if they want a holistic team.
