Leadership Skills: Surviving Market Crises with the 3Rs

You can safely assume that there will be market crises that will affect your business from time to time.  Running a business is far from easy during times when there is a market crisis.

Your job as an owner or C-level exec goes beyond the nine-to-five grind.

You need to make sure operations run smoothly, you run to meetings and talk to various types of people, and assume responsibility for practically everything under your care. Running an organization and leading a team takes a whole lot of leadership skills to be able to perform the function well.

In today’s generation, the competition in the market of whatever industry you are in just gets fiercer; expectations are higher and consumers are more demanding than ever before.

That is why business leaders today are stepping it up just to survive out there. Better products, more efficient services, and increased customer satisfaction are essential components to stay competitive.

As they say, no matter how prepared your business is, there are always unforeseen scenarios that can hit you hard. A perfect example of this would be the 2008 recession in the United States that left many states at their lowest, employees were being retrenched, and businesses hit their all-time low.

This was something businesses could not easily avoid. When the crisis hit, it swept everything on its path.

In times of crises that are inevitable, the test of true leadership skills comes to play.

Business leaders who have survived the recession were quick to share their not-so-secret tips for survival.

They call it the “3 Rs”– Resilience, Resolution, and Results.

Here’s a quick look at each of the “3 R’s”

Resilience

Crises are inevitable and unexpected and it is only through your business’s ability to bend with the crisis and not break will you stand a chance to survive it.

Continuing operations even under adverse circumstances will help you weather out a recession or a calamity. Be flexible so you don’t bend and break under tough circumstances.

Resolution

You can’t run from a crisis that has obviously hit your country or state, so stop denying the situation and do something about it.

Make a commitment and be ready to make tough decisions to resolve what can be and move forward in whatever way possible given the circumstances. You need to have a business continuity plan in place, should the worst happen. This is a test of your leadership skills.

Results

Now, with your resilience and resolutions in place, you may expect positive results in the midst of adverse circumstances.

Your commitment to bend with the crisis and make tough decisions will carry out positive results for the business and its market. These results are what will help you get through.

With Resilience, Resolution, and Results in place, these three will help to deliver Recovery.

Slowly you will be able to stay afloat and survive with what you have. As they say, these crises will not last forever, they are bound to come and go.

Even the worst of situations will soon end.

Instead of sulking, take the challenge as a chance to hone your leadership skills.

Practice the three Rs to get you ready to face the unexpected and still come out a winner.
